Biography
After graduating from Alfred University in 1970 with a BFA in graphic design and illustration, Anastasi began his career as a commercial package designer and freelance illustrator in Upstate New York.
In 1974, he founded his own advertising agency in Corning, New York, with Corning Glass as his largest client. His commercial work has won numerous awards, including 84 Gold Addies and two “Best of Shows” at the Columbus Advertising Awards. His watercolor illustrations have been recognized by such prestigious organizations as The New York Art Director’s Club, Clio’s New York Society of Illustrators, Print Magazine and Editor & Publisher. In 1998 he designed and illustrated a children’s book…”Grimsby the Great Lakes Sea Serpent,” to raise money for children in the arts in Western Pennsylvania.
After leaving advertising, Anastasi began his new career in fine arts. For many years he has worked with the homeless in Columbus through the St. Vincent de Paul Society. This work inspired him to create a series of portraits to capture the wonderful spirit of the people he serves. He considers these recent paintings and drawings to be his finest body of work.
